Dead police chief was due to appear in court

Suspended Leicestershire Police Assistant Chief Constable Gordon Fraser, who was found dead on a railway line yesterday, was due to appear in court on Monday.

Mr Fraser and his wife Teresa were charged with perverting the course of justice over a speeding incident in Scotland, which Hertfordshire Constabulary was investigating.

It is alleged Mrs Fraser, who was suspended from West Midlands Police pending the investigation's outcome, accepted responsibility for a speeding offence committed by her husband.

Mr Fraser was suspended from duty in December 2010, pending a separate investigation by Merseyside Police.
