A British woman has been reportedly freed from kidnappers in Ecuador. She and an Australian woman were captured by a suspected Colombian group while canoeing during a visit to a nature reserve in the Amazon jungle, before being saved by police.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed it is working with Ecuadorian authorities following reports that a British woman and Australian women have been kidnapped while visiting a remote nature reserve in the Amazon jungle.
A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We are aware of an incident and are working with the Ecuadorian authorities."
The FCO currently advises against all travel to the areas immediately bordering Colombia in Carchi province because of criminal activity and organised crime.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
