Roman Abramovich raised objections about the trial being staged in the UK. He said the court had dealt with "essentially Russian claims arising out of a uniquely Russian story".

The Chelsea owner said he decided he had not challenged the jurisdiction because Mr Berezovsky had been granted "refugee status" in the UK, had been convicted of "defrauding money" in Russia.
