NASA astronauts, political leaders and members of the Armstrong family will attend a public memorial today for Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, who died on August 25.

The first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong, has died.
Armstrong underwent a heart-bypass surgery earlier this month to relieve blocked coronary arteries.
As commander of the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969.
His words, uttered just before taking his first step on the moon, have been immortalised: "This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."
