Mexican police accused of mistakenly firing at US officials

Police in Mexico mistakenly shot at a car carrying two US government employees after the vehicle came under attack from unidentified gunmen, the Mexican Navy has claimed.

The shooting appears to have been a case of a confused gunbattle that broke out on a rural road just south of Mexico City.

One US worker was hit in the stomach and hand and another suffered a wound to the leg during the attack, though it remained unclear whose bullets injured the pair.
