Hague says Britain is under a binding obligation to extradite Assange

Foreign Secretary William Hague has given a press conference in response to Ecuador's decision to grant Wikileaks founder Julian Assange asylum.

He said that under our law Britain is under a binding obligation to extradite Assange to Sweden. Ecuador's decision today changes nothing.

Mr Hague said Ecuador knows the full legal context in this country and it is a matter of regret they have decided to make today's announcement.

He added that "we will not allow Mr Assange safe passage out of the UK and nor is there any legal basis for us to do so".
