Laura Trott has claimed Team GB's 21st Olympic gold of London 2012 with a stunning victory in the final event of the two-day omnium.
Trott topped the leaderboard overnight in the six-discipline race but trailed USA's Sarah Hammer as she entered the final event, the two-lap 500m time trial.
Yet Trott went fastest when it counted in an electrifying final race as Hammer failed to post a quick enough time to hold on to the gold spot.
It secured Trott, who is regarded as the natural successor to Victoria Pendleton, her second gold of the Games after victory in the women's team pursuit.
