Activists are protesting outside the Olympic Stadium against Dow Chemical, one of the sponsors of the games. The protesters staged a "die-in" demanding compensation for those affected by the Bhopal disaster in 1984.

Commonly referred to as the world's worst industrial catastrophe, a gas leak in a factory in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, killed almost 4,000 people within weeks after a poisonous chemical leaked into a nearby water supply.

Although figures are contested in 2006 the Indian government said the leak caused injury to half a million people. Dow says it has no liability because it only bought the company responsible for the plant after the cases had been settled.
