Woman's body found in South Shields park

The body of a woman has been recovered from a pond in a public park on Tyneside.

Northumbria Police were called to Temple Memorial Park in South Shields after receiving reports of a body in the pond at around 8am on Sunday.

Emergency services attended the scene and removed the body from the water.

Enquires are now underway to identify the woman.

Officers remain on the scene and a cordon is currently in place.
