Demonstration against Town Moor roundabout plans

Campaigners opposing plans to revamp one of Newcastle's busiest roundabouts will hold a demonstration later.

Newcastle City Council has published plans to significantly expand the Blue House roundabout, north of the city centre.

Opponents say they are excessive, and would destroy a section of the protected Town Moor.

More than 3,000 people have signed a petition against the proposals. The local authority's formal consultation closes today.

More than 100 people have injured at Blue House roundabout in the last five years.

Newcastle City Council has said the roundabout is one of the most unsafe and congested in the city, and it will consider views as it moves forward.

There are also proposals to expand Haddricks Mill roundabout nearby.
