Fire extinguished at Newcastle Swing Bridge

Firefighters have extinguished a fire at the Swing Bridge in Newcastle.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue received a call at 1pm reporting a fire under the bridge. Three crews from Newcastle, including a fireboat crew, and a crew from Gateshead attended the scene.
It is not known how the fire started.
The fire involved approximately 25 square metres of wooden staves on a pontoon underneath the bridge. The fire service say it was quickly contained, and the last crew left the incident at 3.15pm after checking for any possible hotspots.
