Man found dead in South Shields

The body of a man has been found in a property on Stanhope Road in South Shields.

Police were called just after 10am this morning after reports expressing concern for a man inside an address on the street.

A man was found dead inside the property.

Enquiries are ongoing into his death.

A post mortem is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

There was a fire inside the address and one line of enquiry is that this MAY have contributed to his death

The property will remain cordoned off by police overnight while enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

The man's family and next of kin are still being informed.
