Police officers hit by drunk driver

Two police officers responding to an emergency call had to be taken to hospital after being hit by a drunk driver.

The officers, from Cleveland Police, were on their way to an emergency call from a member of the public when the intoxicated driver pulled out of a junction in front of them.

The black Ford Mondeo collided with the police car on York Road, Hartlepool late on the evening of Thursday April 21.

A spokesperson from Cleveland and Durham Road Policing Unit said:

"These officers never made it to the emergency call and instead went to A&E.

"Let's hope for a speedy recovery for both officers.

"Don't drink and drive. Even one drink can be too many!"
