Crook fatal crash investigators look to trace white transit van

Experts investigating a fatal crash near Crook at the end of last month are hoping to trace the driver of a white van they believe may be able to help with their enquires.

22-year-old new Dad Shane Dowson was a rear passenger in a Vauxhall Vectra, which was travelling on the B6299 from Tow Law to Sunniside when it left the roadside and crashed just after 6.15pm on the evening of Sunday 28th February.

The driver of the Vectra, also aged 22 and from Willington was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He is currently on police bail while enquiries continue.

The officers investigating the crash are now appealing for people to come forward and contact them if they saw a white Ford Transit panel van which travelled through Sunniside at 6.15pm that evening, just before the crash.

The van, which may have had a pipe carrier on the roof, was heading in the direction of Tow Law at the time.

“We are appealing for the driver of the vehicle to make contact with us, as they may hold information relevant to the investigation.

If anyone else recognises this van we would also ask them to get in touch."
