Fire at Monument Metro station in Newcastle extinguished
The fire at the Monument Metro Station in Newcastle has now been extinguished.
Four fire appliances tackled a fire in the ceiling of the station while a full evacuation took place.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has said fire crews are currently ensuring the area is safe and that the cause of the fire is under investigation:
A Metro spokesman has said: “The fire brigade remain on site along with Nexus engineers who are checking the station over before it can be re-opened. Metro trains are still operating through Monument but they are not stopping there. The rest of the system is operating normally.”
