Driver escapes as prison van bursts into flames

The driver of a prison van managed to escape just before his vehicle burst into flames as it travelled along a main road in North Yorkshire.

It started when a tyre caught fire just after noon on Monday, 11th August, as the van was travelling northbound on the A19 between Thirsk and Easingwold. The van was not carrying any prisoners at the time.
