Fire at recycling plant

Fire crews are dealing with a blaze at a recycling plant.

They were called to UK Wood Recycling on Teesside after a fire broke out in the early hours of December 23.

The fire began in a stack of wood and is being controlled by the emergency fire service from Sembcorp - who own the Wilton Site - and Cleveland fire and rescue.

The company say high winds caused the fire to spread and they are moving as much unaffected wood as possible.

"We apologise to any local residents who are being affected by smoke of ash in the vicinity of UK Wood Recycling.

"The fire is under control and we have been advised by the fire specialists to let it burn itself out. We would just advise people to keep their windows and doors closed."

– Vicki Hughes, Group Business Development Director, UK Wood Recycling

The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious and the company say there will be a full investigation into the fire once it is out.
