Police comment after car fire arrests

Two teenagers have been arrested and bailed after five cars were set on fire in Newcastle.

Inspector Deborah Alderson, from Northumbria Police said:

"I'd like to reassure people that arrests were made quickly in this case and it remains an active enquiry. However we'd still appeal for anyone with information about these arsons to get in touch."

Two teens arrested over Newcastle car fires

Police have arrested two teenagers in connection with a spate of car fires in Newcastle.

Five cars were set alight in the Walker area at around 2:30am on Sunday 2nd June. Two youths - aged 13 and 17 - have been arrested on suspicion of arson and a separate burglary at the home of a pensioner.

Both teenagers have been released on police bail.

Northumbria Police are investigating a number of cars fires in Newcastle.

Officers received a report of five cars being set on fire in the Walker area of Newcastle just before 2:30am today, June 2.

The cars were in different locations around Sunningdale Avenue and Welbeck Road.
