Plans for 100-hectare mine

A mining company has announced its preferred location for a large new potash mine at Sneaton near Whitby, in the North York Moors National Park.

York Potash says the site will be disguised by trees and an underground pipe will transport the potash, used for making fertilisers, to Teesside for processing. It would create 1000 jobs and thousands more in the supply chain.

The plans will now by subject to public consultation.
