Two fire crews have a tackled a sinkhole in North Yorkshire.

This measured five metres by five metres and was of an unknown depth in Ripon, near the town's leisure centre, which is on Dallamires Lane.

The crews cordoned off the area until police and a Harrogate Borough Council emergency planning team arrived on the scene.

These firefighters were called to the scene at 3.45pm yesterday and, following their action, the incident left with the authority's team.

The centre had to close early yesterday as a result of the sinkhole but announced this morning via Facebook that it was open as usual.
