Man's body found near South Tyneside river

The body of a man has been found close to a river in South Tyneside.

Police were called to Calfclose Burn near Fellgate Avenue in Jarrow ataround 9am on Monday 5, February after the discovery was made by a member of the public.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said the death is being treated asunexplained.

She added: "A cordon is in place in the area while police deal with theincident."
