Newcastle fans urged to take along donations for foodbank ahead of Wigan match on Saturday

A fan-organised foodbank is to take place ahead of Newcastle's match with Wigan.

The event has already proved hugely successful with five tonnes of donations collected in just two matches earlier in the season.

The 'NUFC Fans Food Bank' will be back again on Saturday before Newcastle United take on Wigan.

Volunteers from Newcastle West End Foodbank will be at the Gallowgate End from 1pm on Saturday, with supporters encouraged to donate what they can.

All donations go directly to the Newcastle foodbank, which is the largest and most in-demand of its kind in the UK.

The ‘NUFC Fans Food Bank’ campaign has been organised by the Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) and NUFC Fans United.

Mike Nixon, from the foodbank, said has previously praised supporters for their efforts while Rafa Benitez called it amazing.

Fans are encouraged to take along any of the following items:

  • Breakfast cereals

  • Soup

  • Pasta and pasta sauce

  • Rice

  • Tins of beans / meat / vegetables or fruit

  • Tea or coffee

  • Sugar

  • Biscuits / snacks

  • Soap / toiletries / sanitary products / toothpaste
