Police have charged three men in connection with a shooting at Tup Tup Palace in 2015.

Twelve men were arrested by police on Wednesday, February 8 following an operation to search 12 addresses across the east end of Newcastle and Gateshead.

It was part of an ongoing inquiry into a drive-by shooting at the Tup Tup Palace nightclub on St Nicholas Street in Newcastle, on June 6, 2015.

A male door supervisor was shot and seriously injured in the incident.

Those twelve men have been questioned by police and today Northumbria Police have charged three of the men arrested.

They are:

  • John Henry Sayers, 53, of Walker, Newcastle, has been charged with conspiracy to murder.

  • Michael Dixon, 35, of Walker, Newcastle, but currently residing in HMP Holme House, has been charged with conspiracy to murder.

  • Russell Sturman, 28, of Gosforth, Newcastle, has been charged with assisting an offender in the commission of an offence.

All three men will appear before South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court in Bedlington on Friday morning.

The other nine men arrested have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
