US carrier United Airlines is planning to axe its service from Newcastle International Airport to New York/Newark.
The service launched in May 2015 and has operated six days a week for two summer seasons. However, the company has confirmed the route is not profitable and will not be returning in 2017.

The last departure on the service from Newark will be on September 5, with the final departure from Newcastle the following day on September 6.
