United Airlines axe Newcastle to New York route

US carrier United Airlines is planning to axe its service from Newcastle International Airport to New York/Newark.

The service launched in May 2015 and has operated six days a week for two summer seasons. However, the company has confirmed the route is not profitable and will not be returning in 2017.
