Beatles collectables under the hammer
A collection of Beatles memorabilia, including a personal letter from Sir Paul McCartney and early editions of their greatest hits has been auctioned in Darlington for more than £1700.
The items had been kept in an attic in Liverpool for decades until their owner discovered their true worth.
The owner contacted Thomas Watson Auctioneers last month to ask if they'd be interested in selling the collection.
She had known Paul McCartney's father and so wrote to the young pop star just as The Beatles were becoming popular in Liverpool to ask for some photographs.
He replied with a personal letter and some photos.
She went on to keep all of the Fab Four's later hit singles, many of which formed part of today's auction lot.
They were auctioned and sold to a buyer over the internet for £1725.
