Newcastle Central Metro closing for three days in March

The £6m refurbishment of the Metro concourse and platforms at Central Station in Newcastle will mean that the station has to close completely for three full days in March.

Nexus, which owns and manages Metro, is to shut Metro Central Station from 8pm on Thursday March 10 until the end of Metro services Sunday March 13.

Customers will be able to access the station as usual from 5am on Monday March 14.

The three day closure is needed so that engineers can safely replace electrical distribution and control equipment as part of the on-going modernisation scheme.

When the station is closed Metro services will still run through Central but they will not be stopping there.
