Florian Thauvin contributed the opening goal and three assists to the Magpies' 4-1 victory over League Two Northampton at St James' Park in the League Cup second round.
The former Marseille winger announced his arrival within three minutes of his home debut when he stabbed home Massadio Haidara's back-post cross.
Born in the French city of Orleans on January 26th 1993, Thauvin made his professional debut for Grenoble in March 2011.
Two years later he signed for Marseille, where he quickly became a key player: 81 appearances in all competitions over two seasons, 15 goals in that time.
He has also played for France at under-18, under-19, under-20 and under-21 level, the 22-year-old now awaiting a call up for the senior international side.
The Observer named him one their ten top European youngsters and stars of the future last year, with Toulouse coach Alain Casanova describing him as "very dangerous indeed."
Thauvin turned down a chance to join Inter Milan last summer, and was also reportedly a target for Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
But it was Newcastle who eventually signed the Frenchman on a five-year contract where he is now wearing the number 20 shirt.
