Newcastle City Council launches 'Keep It Clean' campaign
Newcastle City Council has launched a 'Keep It Clean' campaign to urge people in the city to do their bit to keep their local area keen.
The campaign hopes to stamp out littering, dog-fouling and fly-tipping.
Posters have been created that warn people about the penalties they can receive for such offences.
Newcastle City Council estimates that it will spend approximately £4.2 million this year clearing up the city's streets - but Council bosses say they will need to reduce that figure because of central Government cuts.
Cllr Hazel Stephenson, the Council's Cabinet Member for Communities, said the problems can affect people's "health and wellbeing".
