Man and two children injured in lightning strike

Lightning has struck and injured a father and his two children in Northern Ireland, UTV understands.

The man and a five-year-old boy are fighting for their lives, while a seven-year-old girl was seriously injured during the incident at Lisburn in Co Antrim.

It comes as thunderstorms and heavy downpours fell across the UK this afternoon, causing flash flooding.

Cars abandoned in floodwater following torrential rain

This is the aftermath of a flash flood Surrey following torrential rain.

Three cars were abandoned and their drivers rescued after their vehicles became submerged in Manor Road in Wallington.

London Fire Brigade pumped away the water, which had reached levels of two metres.

Three people were rescued after their cars were submerged in floodwater.

The cars sank on Manor Road in Wallington, near Croydon, after the area was hit with flash flooding.

The three vehicles sank to a depth of two metres along the same stretch of road.

Two people were helped by members of the public before the London Fire Brigade arrived and assisted the third driver.

The man and a five-year-old boy are fighting for their lives, while a seven-year-old girl was seriously injured during the incident at Lisburn in Co Antrim.

It is understood the three people had been at a school sports event at around 2pm at Laurehill Road when they were hit.

A spokeswoman for the South Eastern Area Health and Social Services Trust said the man was in a critical condition at Lagan Valley Hospital and would be transferred to an intensive care unit as soon as practically possible.

The two children were taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Belfast for treatment to burns

A spokesman for the Belfast Health Trust confirmed the boy was critically ill and that the girl was in a serious condition.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it sent a number of rapid response and A&E crews to the scene.

Heavy downpours have also caused severe flooding in the town.
