Istanbul police bus attack leaves 11 dead

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has condemned the bomb attack in Istanbul which killed 11 people and injured a further 36.

Mr Hammond said on Twitter that his thoughts are with the victims of the "senseless and appalling act of violence".

US ambassador to Turkey John Bass also condemned the "barbarous terror attack", and extended condolences to victims and their families.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited victims being treated in hospital today, and said the country would fight terrorists "to the end".

No-one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred during rush hour in the central Istanbul district of Vezneciler.

It is the fourth major bombing in Turkey's biggest city this year.

Forensic experts have arrived on the scene of the bomb blast in Turkey to investigate the incident, which killed 11 and injured 36.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the country will fight against terrorists "to the end" after a bomb attack killed 11 in Istanbul.

Mr Erdogan visited a hospital where some of the 36 people injured in the blast were being treated.

The prime minister told reporters that the attack against a police vehicle in the central Istanbul district of Vezneciler was "unforgivable".

"We will continue our fight against these terrorists until the end, tirelessly and fearlessly," he said.

The death toll in a bomb attack against a police vehicle in Turkey has risen to 11, Istanbul's governor Vasip Sahin said.

Seven of the casualties were police officers and a further 36 people were injured in the blast, which occurred during rush hour in the central Istanbul district of Vezneciler.

CNN Turk reported that a parked car packed with explosives was detonated by remote control as the police bus drove by.

The police bus was overturned from the force of the blast, which also damaged nearby buildings, including a hotel.

CNN Turk broadcast mobile phone footage of a blackened and mangled vehicle on the street near Istanbul University.
