Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew was also fined £60,000 and warned as to his future conduct. The Football Association said an Independent Regulatory Commission ruled the first three-matches imposed are a stadium ban with the remaining four a touchline ban.

The ban comes after he was involved in an incident in which he appeared to headbutt a Hull City player in the 72nd minute of a fixture on March 1.

Freddy Shepherd has told ITV News Tyne Tees that the controversy surrounding Alan Pardew's headbutt of Hull's David Meyler will follow him for the rest of his life.

Speaking about the incident, the former Newcastle United owner said: "He has got that for the rest of his life. That will be on his back for the rest of his life."

In the interview, Freddy Shepherd also made it clear that he does not want to see Alan Pardew lose his job.

The FA said it was a "non-standard case" because of its "serious, violent and/or aggressive nature."

Pardew has until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the charge.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has been fined £100,000 and received a formal warning from the club in relation to his behaviour at Hull, the north-east club have announced.

The club said they are "disappointed with the actions of its manager."

In a statement the club said: "His behaviour was unacceptable and is not the behaviour we expect from the manager of Newcastle United."

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has expressed his regret in the wake of the extraordinary flashpoint which overshadowed his team's 4-1 Barclays Premier League win at Hull.

The game's main talking point arrived in the 72nd minute when Hull midfielder David Meyler barged into Pardew as he looked to retrieve the ball for a throw-in.

The Newcastle manager, no stranger to touchline altercations, squared up to the former Sunderland midfielder before appearing to move his head in the direction of the Irishman.

Referee Kevin Friend certainly viewed it as a serious incident and sent Pardew to the stands, with the FA sure to take a close look at the altercation in the coming days.

Pardew told Sky Sports News afterwards: "It was a heat of the moment thing - I massively regret it."

"I didn't meant to do anything aggressive but I moved my head forward and that's enough."It's a shame because it took the gloss off a fantastic performance from us. That's really upsetting."
