Detectives investigating ITV Granada weather presenter Fred Talbot on suspicion of historic sexual offences are trying to trace pupils from other schools after information has been received from the public following his arrest.

Mr Talbot was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of historic sex offences in relation to abuseagainst former pupils who attended Altrincham Grammar School for Boys between the early 1970s and early 1980s.

He has been released on bail until August pending further enquiries.

Following the publicity surrounding this man’s arrest information has been received from the public that he taught at various schools in the Tyne and Wear area and which included Saltwell and Slatyford High School.

Anyone who attended these or any other schools between 1968 and the early 1970s and who has any information which they believe may assist police are asked to call Greater Manchester Police.

All information received will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

Weatherman Fred Talbot released on police bail

ITV Granada Reports weatherman Fred Talbot has been bailed after he was arrested by police investigating historic sex abuse allegations relating to his time as a teacher at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in Greater Manchester between the early 1970s and early 1980s.

A 63-year-old man arrested as part of an investigation into reports of historic sexual abuse at a school in Trafford has been released on police bail.

The man was arrested on Tuesday 9 April 2013, on suspicion of three counts of indecent assault and four counts of inciting a child to commit acts of gross indecency.

He has been bailed until 16 August 2013 pending further enquiries.

Police 'eager to trace' former pupils of school

Police investigating claims of historic sexual abuse at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in Trafford say they have made good progress in tracing former pupils.

Since allegations were made to police in December we have made good progress with this investigation and with tracing and speaking to former pupils of Altrincham Grammar School.

However, as part of our ongoing inquiry, I am eager to trace anyone who attended the school between the early 1970s and 1980s, who feel they may have information to assist the police investigation.

Fred Talbot arrested over historic sexual abuse claims

ITV weatherman Fred Talbot was arrested today by police investigating historic sex abuse allegations at a school.

The 63-year-old was held on suspicion of three counts of indecent assault and four counts of inciting a child to commit acts of gross indecency.

The alleged offences relate to his time as a teacher at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in Trafford, Greater Manchester, between the early 1970s and early 1980s, where the four victims were pupils.

He remains in police custody for questioning.
