A 26-year-old man has been charged with an alleged terrorist offence in Syria, police said tonight. Shajul Islam is accused with imprisoning Sunday Times photographer John Cantlie and Dutch journalist Jeroen Oerlemans against their will.

Man charged with kidnapping journalists in Syria
Shajul Islam is accused of keeping John Cantlie, who worked for various newspapers including the Sunday Times, and Dutch journalist Jeroen Oerlemans captive for around a week in Syria.
He was arrested last week after arriving at Heathrow airport on a flight from Egypt, and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court tomorrow. A 26-year-old woman who was held with him was released without charge.

A woman arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of terror offences in Syria has been released without charge, Scotland Yard has announced.
The 26-year-old and a man the same age were held last week on suspicion of committing, preparing or instigating terrorist acts in the country.
The pair, who were due to be questioned over the kidnapping of a British photographer, were returning on a flight from Egypt and the man remains in custody.
