Penny Mordaunt has replaced Priti Patel as International Development Secretary Credit: PA

Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt has replaced Priti Patel, who resigned as International Development Secretary.

Penny Mordaunt has been serving as the Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work. She was elected Conservative MP for Portsmouth North in 2010.

She was named as the Armed Forces Minister in a previous cabinet reshuffle. She was also the first woman to take on that role and trained to be a Royal Navy reservist.

Penny Mordaunt was educated at Oaklands RC Comprehensive School and at Reading University where she read Philosophy.
