Firefighters remain overnight at waste fire

Around 25 firefighters were needed at the height of a fire on New Hythe Lane in Larkfield in Kent involving waste and plant machinery.

The alarm was raised just before 7 o'clock yesterday evening when a number of calls were made reporting a large amount of black smoke in the area.

The blaze involved approximately 200 tonnes of scrap metal and plant machinery. People living nearby were urged to keep doors and windows shut. Crews managed to get it under control after 10:30pm. The operation was scaled back at 5am.
