New cancer centre will be first of its kind in UK
A new cancer research facility being built in Southampton will be the first of its kind in the UK.
The Centre for Cancer Immunology will be part of the University of Southampton and will house world-class research facilities, as well as a clinical trials unit, molecular biology laboratories.
It will also feature a specialist immunology lab to investigate how cancer and the immune system interact.
The new centre, being built next to the Southampton General Hospital, requires £25m of funding. A total of £18.5m has been raised so far and experts hope the new centre will be completed in 2017.
