New generation of trains revealed today

Rail passengers got their first glimpse of a new generation of commuter trains as they were shown off for the first time today.

The trains, covering Berkshire, Oxfordshire and North Hampshire, are aimed at improving delays and reducing over-crowding for rail passengers across the Thames Valley.

The entire fleet were originally due to start service by May 2017 - but won't now be fully introduced until June 2019, over two years late.

It's because of the ongoing delays to the scheme to electrify the Great Western mainline. Eventually they will run to Reading, Oxford, Newbury and Basingstoke.

But for now the trains can only go to Hayes in West London leaving Thames Valley commuters without those promised improvements.
