Kent Police are now using a helicopter to help distribute water to stricken drivers caught in delays around Dover.

Hundreds of bottles of water has been gathered from a Coastguard base in Langdon, near Dover, and distributed to those stuck in lengthy queues in the heat.

Drivers are currently facing more than five hours of delays on the roads heading towards Dover.

Water, provided by Kent County Council is also being handed out on the A20 by Coastguard officers and Kent Police officers. A lane in the opposite direction has been closed to allow for this.

The disruption has been caused by a vast volume of holiday traffic and delays caused by increased security at the French border. Motorists are advised to take plenty of food and water and to check with travel operators before making their trips. If possible, consider making alternative travel arrangements."
