Safety fears after large landslide on Isle of Wight beach

People are being urged to avoid a beach near Sandown on the Isle of Wight following a large cliff fall.

A rescue operation was launched amid fears that three people were trapped, but they escaped unhurt.

The cliff is still unstable - and the stretch of coast at Yaverland beach remains blocked.

Islanders are being urged to stay away from the area, with a rising tide and uncertainty of the stability of the cliff.

The Isle of Wight Council says that signage will be in place soon advising walkers of safe routes in the area.

The cliff path remains open.
