Rail passengers across the South are facing major delays due to a fire at London's Vauxhall station.

Emergency services tackled the fire for 6 hours, between 2am and 830am. Although the fire has been put out, delays are expected to continue for the rest of the day.

Delays were made worse when Clapham Junction station also had to be closed this morning due to overcrowding.

As a result, many commuters were delayed for up to 2 hours - and services are still affected. All routes to and from London Waterloo have been affected.

South West Trains have warned that passengers not to travel unless absolutely essential:

These are the current warnings in place for South West Trains:

  • London Waterloo to Reading will run as scheduled in both directions, but may terminate at Clapham Junction
  • London Waterloo to Weybridge will run as scheduled in both directions, but may terminate at Clapham Junction
  • London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside will not run in both directions
  • Farnham to London Waterloo via Ascot services departing at 21 and 51 minutes past will not run
  • - London Waterloo to Portsmouth stations may start and terminate at Woking and Guildford
  • London Waterloo to Salisbury and Exeter st Davids will start and terminate at Basingstoke

South West Trains say they are arranging to operate a train shuttle between Staines and Windsor in both directions where possible.

The operator says tickets can be used on Great Western on any reasonable route and Southern Railway between Dorking/Epsom/Clapham Junction and London Victoria.
