Train crash caused by corroded signal post

An investigation into a train accident at Newbury last November has concluded a high speed Great Western Railway train crashed into a signal post which had fallen over because it had corroded.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has made recommendations aimed at stopping a repeat including better inspections of signal posts to identify those in a poor condition.
