Surrey named University of the Year in national survey

The University of Surrey in Guildford has been named University of the Year in the Times and Sunday Times 'Good University Guide'

It came top in the 'best teaching' and 'best student experience' categories, and eighth in terms of academic league tables.

The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016 praised the University for being one of “the most innovative universities in the UK: reducing its dependence on state funding, investing £400m to develop the campus in Guildford, and launching a joint venture in China”, as well as “a new £45m veterinary school”.

It also commended its low dropout rate and commitment to undergraduates from poor socio-economic groups.

Oxford University dropped from joint first place to second, behind Cambridge in the league tables, while the Universities of Southampton and Sussex both made the top twenty.

In terms of student satisfaction, Buckingham came 7th over all.
