Dog owners horrified as pets are smuggled in illegally

The dog welfare charity, The Dog's Trust, has released video of its undercover investigation into the illegal smuggling of puppies into the country.

The group - which has bases in Canterbury and Shoreham - says traffickers continue to use the Pet Travel Scheme as a cover to transport dogs across Europe, usually from Eastern Europe, into the UK, via the Channel Tunnel.

The dogs are then passed off as being born in this country. It's only when the puppies become sick the new owners find out that their pet has been brought in illegally. Lauren Hall reports.
