Worthing pier saved from fire

More than thirty firefighters, along with coastguard and lifeguard crews, have brought a blaze at Worthing pier under control.

The alarm was raised at 8.30pm on Saturday, after fire broke out in a function room.

There were no reports of any injuries and the fire was put out by 10pm. Crews then spent several hours ensuring there weren't any hot spots. The damage was contained to a small area, but an investigation has been launched into how it started.

Shoreham and Worthing East MP Tim Loughton Tweeted that he was "relieved to see only minor damage from the fire on Worthing Pier."
