Fire breaks out on cross channel ferry

A fire broke out on board a cross-Channel ferry as it was arriving in northern France, operator P&O has said.

A total of 337 passengers were on the Pride of Canterbury vessel, which had sailed from Dover in Kent, when the blaze broke out in the engine room at around 8am UK-time.

A P&O spokeswoman said: "The fire was extinguished straight away by the sprinkler system.

"There were no injuries, either among the crew or passengers.

"The passengers disembarked as normal."

One round-trip service, the 9.50 from Calais and the 11.10 from Dover, was cancelled to enable the damage to be assessed
