Drugs smuggler jailed

A lorry driver from Croatia has been jailed after being found guilty of attempting to smuggle approximately two kilos of cocaine, 150 kilos of cannabis resin and 30 kilos of herbal cannabis through Dover into the UK.

Damir Komaromi was sentenced to eight years by Canterbury Crown Court.

Border Force officers stopped a Slovenian-registered lorry at the inward freight controls at Dover. After questioning the driver, the lorry and its load of mixed goods was examined.

The combined estimated street value of the drugs found concealed in pallets was £1.3 million.
