Woman detained after crossing crash

A woman has been detained under the Mental Health Act after a car was hit by a train on a level crossing in Oxfordshire. The British Transport Police released the following statement a short time ago:

BTP officers were called to the line close to Sandy Lane, Yarnton, on Tuesday, 12 November after a report that a vehicle had been struck by a train at the crossing.

On arrival, emergency services discovered one woman inside the car, a black Volkswagen Golf. The woman, in her 40s and from Banbury, was cut out from the car by the Fire and Rescue Service and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital on Tuesday night, although her injuries are not believed to be serious. She has since been detained under the Mental Health Act and remains in hospital for an assessment."

The train involved in the incident, the 2.45pm Bournemouth to Manchester Piccadilly Cross Country service, remained upright and on the tracks and there were no reported injuries to the 100 passengers onboard.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch and Office of Rail Regulation have been informed.

British Transport Police officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and would urge anyone with information to contact them on 0800 40 50 40** **quoting incident number 407 of 12/11/2013.

Woman taken to hospital after train hits her car

The British Transport Police have released this statement about a train hitting a car in Sandy Lane, Yarnton:

BTP officers were called to the line close to Sandy Lane, Yarnton, on Tuesday, 12 November after a report that a vehicle had been struck by a train at the crossing.

Thames Valley Police officers and medics from South Central Ambulance Service also attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 4.40pm.

On arrival, emergency services discovered one woman inside the car, a black Volkswagen Golf. She has since been taken to The John Radcliffe Hospital for an assessment, although her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Train hits a vehicle in Oxfordshire

The incident was reported to BTP at 4.40pm.

Car hit by train in Oxfordshire

There is disruption on First Great Western between Reading and Banbury as a vehicle has been hit by a train.

Trains are currently unable to run between Oxford and Banbury so buses are being arranged to replace the trains.

There is no estimate for a normal service.

This is also affecting Cross Country trains too.
