It's a shocking fact that more people drown every year than die from malaria. And most of those drownings occur in the world's poorest countries.
The RNLI has been saving lives at sea in this country since 1824. Now the charity is working to reduce the number of lives lost overseas.
It's flown trainee lifesavers from seven countries to its headquarters here in the Meridian region to teach them how to save lives. Kerry Swain has been to see a training session on the beach.
