Body found after Isle of Wight house fire
A body has been found inside a bungalow - which has been totally destroyed by fire on the Isle of Wight.
Firefighters were called to a detached cottage on Portchfield Road near Newtown last night - and worked through the night to overcome the blaze.
Emergency services found the house engulfed by flames when they arrived at the address in Porchfield just before 9:00 pm.
Fire crews from Freshwater, Newport and Ryde were sent to the scene - along with police and paramedics.
Initially emergency services at the scene believed that the property was empty
But as investigations began in daylight this morning police announced that sadly a body had been discovered.
The victim's family have been informed. Police officers have now travelled over from the mainland to investigate the cause of the fire.
These investigations are still underway but the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
