Police appeal after man's body found in River Thames

Police are appealing for help after a man's body was pulled from the River Thames in Oxford.

Officers were called to Iffley Lock near the Isis Farmhouse pub at 6.11am this morning, after reports that a body was in the river.

Thames Valley Police, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Service attended the scene and recovered a man from the river.

Sadly, the man was later declared deceased at hospital.

The man has not yet been identified.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Matt Gorman said: “I am appealing to anyone who has any information about how the man came to be in the River Thames.

“Residents will see an increased police presence in the area while police officer carrying out further enquiries. If anyone has any concerns or questions please ask a police officer or Police Community Support Officer.

“There is a scenewatch in the area but there are no road closures in place and although the locks were closed for a short period they have now reopened.”
